To all my friends who are unemployed or looking for a job: Get off your ass and make it happen for yourself. I understand it can be really hard to find a job, especially this time of year but that's no excuse. Sitting on your ass and sending out resumes is probably the least effective way of getting a job. Usually the best way to get a job is by getting to know someone who works at the company and can refer you directly to the hiring manager. I met this guy today standing in the middle of Union station during rush hour with a "Hire Me" sign and was so impressed that i immediately felt compelled to talk to him. This guy is a prime example of taking initiative. His fearlessness allows people to not only see his determination but also put a face to his resume. He was able to strike up several conversations throughout the day and was approached by a variety of people from a companies such as Sunlife Financial. This guy, who's name I forgot to ask, is a true inspiration. I dont doubt for a second that he will be successful in life and that this bold act will open many doors for him. I'm not suggesting you do the exact same thing just suggesting that you stop wasting time hoping for an opportunity to come your way and instead start networking and creating opportunities for yourself. Stop letting things happen to you and start making things happen for you. I believe that being broke and unemployed is a choice that you have the power to change. Take initiative and responsibility for your life, there really is no excuse. The end.
